How to Fix Screen Share Audio Not Working in Discord (No Sound!)
Check Basic Settings:
Enable audio when starting screen share. In Discord, click screen share, select screen/app, and toggle Share audio or Include audio.
Ensure system audio isn’t muted. On Windows, check taskbar speaker; on Mac, go to System Preferences, Sound, and raise output volume.
Set correct output device in Discord: User Settings, Voice & Video, Output Device.
Restart Discord and Device:
Close Discord fully (use Task Manager on Windows or Activity Monitor on Mac). Relaunch and test.
Restart computer or mobile device.
Add Application to Discord:
Open Discord and app to share (e.g., Chrome, VLC).
Go to User Settings, Activity Status, Add It, select app, and click Add Game. Enable Overlay if prompted.
Share the app, not entire screen, for audio capture.
Switch to Windowed Mode:
Change game/app to windowed mode in its display settings, as Discord may fail to capture audio in full-screen.
Reset Voice Settings:
In Discord, go to User Settings, Voice & Video, Reset Voice Settings, confirm, and test.
Use Legacy or Experimental Audio:
Go to User Settings, Voice & Video, Audio Subsystem, and select Legacy.
Or, under Voice & Video, Screen Share, toggle Use an experimental method to capture audio from applications to ON.
Update Discord and Audio Drivers:
Update Discord: On Windows, press Win + R, type %AppData%, open Discord folder in Local, run Update.exe. On Mac, quit Discord, relaunch, press Command + R.
Update audio drivers: On Windows, press Win + R, type devmgmt.msc, expand Audio inputs and outputs, right-click device, select Update driver. Or download from manufacturer’s site (e.g., Realtek).
Run Discord as Administrator:
On Windows, search Discord, right-click, select Run as administrator.
Clear Discord Cache:
On Windows: Press Win + R, type %appdata%, delete Discord folder in Roaming and Local. Relaunch.
On Mac: Open Finder, press Command + Shift + G, type ~/Library/Application Support/discord, delete Cache folder.
Disable Antivirus/Firewall:
Temporarily disable antivirus/firewall. If fixed, add Discord as an exception.
Browser Settings (Web Version):
Allow microphone/sound permissions in browser (check lock icon in address bar). Try another browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge).
Disable hardware acceleration: In Chrome, go to Settings, System, toggle off Use hardware acceleration when available.
Update Operating System:
On Windows, go to Settings, Windows Update, install updates.
On Mac, go to System Preferences, Software Update.
On mobile, check Settings, General, Software Update (iOS) or Settings, System, System Update (Android).
Reinstall Discord:
Uninstall: On Windows, go to Control Panel, Uninstall a program, remove Discord. On Mac, drag Discord to Trash.
Delete residuals: On Windows, clear %appdata%/Discord and %localappdata%/Discord. On Mac, delete ~/Library/Application Support/discord.
Download and install latest version from Discord’s website.
Mobile-Specific Fixes:
Ensure Android 10+ for audio sharing (earlier versions unsupported).
Force stop Discord: On Android, Settings, Apps, Discord, Force Stop. On iOS, swipe up from app switcher. Relaunch.
Clear cache: On Android, Settings, Apps, Discord, Storage, Clear Cache. On iOS, User Settings, Clear Caches.
Check Discord Server Status:
Check Discord’s status page or @Discord on X for outages. Wait if servers are down.
