How to Fix PS5 Not Connecting to WiFi and Network Issues (Easy Method)
Here’s how to fix a PS5 not connecting to WiFi or experiencing network issues, without brackets:
Check Your Internet Connection
Ensure your WiFi network works by testing it with another device like a phone or laptop.
Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.
Restart Your PS5
Turn off your PS5 completely, not just Rest Mode.
Unplug it from the power source for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Test the PS5 Network Connection
Go to Settings, Network, Test Internet Connection.
This checks your connection speed and if the PS5 can reach the internet and PlayStation Network, PSN.
Reconnect to WiFi
Navigate to Settings, Network, Set Up Internet Connection.
Select your WiFi network, enter the password, and connect.
If it fails, try Set Up Manually and ensure settings like DNS or IP match your network.
Check WiFi Signal Strength
Move your PS5 closer to the router to rule out signal interference or weak range.
Avoid obstructions like walls or furniture and devices like microwaves or cordless phones that might interfere.
Switch WiFi Bands
If your router has 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, switch between them: 2.4 GHz offers better range, slower speed; 5 GHz gives faster speed, shorter range.
Go to Settings, Network, Set Up Internet Connection, press the Options button on your controller, and select WiFi Frequency Bands to choose.
Update PS5 System Software
Go to Settings, System, System Software, System Software Update and Settings.
Select Update System Software to ensure your PS5 has the latest version.
Change DNS Settings
Go to Settings, Network, Set Up Internet Connection.
Choose your WiFi network, select Advanced Settings, set DNS to manual, and try public DNS servers: Google - Primary 8.8.8.8, Secondary 8.8.4.4; Cloudflare - Primary 1.1.1.1, Secondary 1.0.0.1.
Check PlayStation Network Status
Visit status.playstation.com to see if an outage is affecting connectivity.
Use a Wired Connection
Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the PS5’s LAN port.
Go to Settings, Network, Set Up Internet Connection, and select Use a LAN Cable.
Reset Network Settings
Go to Settings, Network, Settings, Disconnect from Internet.
Then reconfigure the connection from scratch.
Factory Reset, Last Resort
Back up your data to a USB drive or cloud via Settings, Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
Go to Settings, System, System Software, Reset Options, Reset Your Console; this erases all data, so use it only if necessary.
