About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to make a modded Minecraft server in 1.18. From how to download the Forge server files to how to host a modded Minecraft server with Forge 1.18, this video really does cover every single step of creating a modded Minecraft server and playing modded Minecraft with your friends. So, without anymore delay, here is how to make a Forge server in Minecraft 1.18!

First, we need to download the Forge installer. You can find the Forge installer linked above. That will actually take you to our website. There, scroll down and click the green ‘Download Forge’ button. This will take you to the official Forge download page. Make sure 1.18 is selected on the right-hand side. Then, click on the ‘Installer’ button. You will be taken to AdFocus when you do this. Click the red ‘Skip’ button that appears after 10 seconds in the top right. The Forge installer will then begin downloading.

We can then minimize our browser and create a folder on our desktop titled 'Forge 1.18 Server'. This is where all of our modded Minecraft server files will live.

With the Forge installer downloaded and the Forge server folder created, you will need to open it up. Minecraft 1.18 did change the version of Java required to run it, and this extends to Forge as well. You can find a link to Java 17 in the description above if you have issues. Finally, you can right click on Forge, click Open With, select Java, and click Okay to open the Forge installer.

In the Forge installer, first click 'install' with 'Install Client' select. Once this completes, open up the Forge Installer again. Then, select 'Install Server'. A red box will appear. Click the dots in this box, click on 'Desktop', and select the Forge 1.18 Server folder on your desktop. When you have done this, the red box will disappear in the Forge installer. Then, click 'Install'. Your 1.18 Forge server will start installing!

One your Forge server has installed, open the folder on your desktop. You will have a 'run.bat' file. Double click on this file, and your Forge server will start. However, the first time you start your server in will fail. There will be a few more files and folders though. One of these is the EULA.txt. Open this file in notepad, and if you agree to the Minecraft EULA, change 'eula=false' to 'eula=true'. Save the EULA file, and you can double click the run.bat file again to start your server.

At this point, your Minecraft 1.18 modded server has started! You join it by opening up Minecraft with Forge 1.18 and entering in 'localhost' as your IP address. This will allow you to join your server. You are the only person that can join your server this way. Your friends will join your modded Minecraft server using your public IP address. For them to do this though, they will have to port forward.

You will need to forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocol. We show you how to do this in-depth in the video. Once you have port forwarded, your friends will to install Forge and join your server with Minecraft Forge open using your public IP address. You can find your public IP using the link in the description above.

Congratulations! You now know how to make a modded Minecraft 1.18 server! If you have any issues creating a Forge server in 1.18, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out.
