Finally paying way closer attention to the map and checking out all the random caves I hadn't been paying attention to. Many of them turned out to be the "Tunnel" areas, which are basically mines full of Smithing Stones. Exploring these will put an end to my longstanding weapon upgrade issues.
Diving back through caves, I realized that I totally forgot about Boc. He'd been laying in a heap for weeks, waiting for me to go beat up the bullies who took his sewing stuff. At least now that I've had time to bulk up a bit, I could make short work of the boss in the cave, and hopefully the sewing kit is suitable for stitching up some of Boc's wounds.
