Intel Z390 Supports 6 Core Coffee Lake | Cascade Lake Leak & Jim Keller Intel Project
Intel's Z390 motherboard chipset will likely see a release over the next few months, and while details of how the Z390 compares vs the current 300 series, according to the latest leaks existing coffee lake S processors, including the I7 8700K will work in the newer generation board, confirming it is indeed LGA 1151.
Intel's Cascade Lake is taking aim at AMD's Eypc lineup, pushing the threads up to 56 per processor, but with the notion of increasing sockets to 8 thanks to the new architecture. Rather strangely, PCIE lanes per processor for the Xeon Cascade Lake will remain at only 48 per CPU, compared to 128 per Epyc CPU, and finally it'll only have 6 memory channels, a lower number than that of AMD's 8 for epyc.
Finally, According to a Tesla Earnings Call, CPU architect Jim Keller has left for Intel to design server processors. Mostly likely this will be forming the basis of the Ocean Cove, the same architecture that intel are currently hiring for and is said to be the next big thing to replace the companies current Core processors.
