AMD Super SIMD GPU Next Gen Architecture Analysis | No PS5 At E3 2018 Says Sony
499AMD's next generation GPU architecture known as a Super SIMD / Super-SIMD GPU have leaked thanks to a patent online. This Super-SIMD architecture will likely follow on from Vega and Navi, and will incorporate the best parts of AMD's current GPU architecture; GCN and also VLIW (Very Long Instruction Word). It will place two ALU's next to each other, able to quickly pass data between the two ALUs and in theory, this will allow the performance of the GPU to be vastly. SIMD has advantages with compute, which AMD have thrown their hat into the ring, but VLIW is better when it comes to power / space reasons. Although this will likely bridge the gap between the two architectures. AMD will use VLIW2 to issue instructions to the two ALU units.
Sony's Playstation 5 is confirmed to not be making an appearance at e3 2018 by Sony themselves, and instead they're going to be focused on pushing the games for the PS4 / Ps4 pro such as the last of us 2 and spiderman. While the news the PS5 isn't going to be shown off will be disappointing, it isn't too surprising either, given the rumors tell us that the Navi / Zen powered PS5 won't launch until 2019 / 2020.
