Attempting to reach the Mun again in Kerbal Space Program First Contract!

After the issues with the launch to the Mun last time, we've made some corrections to the ship. First we nearly doubled the amount of fuel in our first liquid stage. While this slows our liftoff speed a bit, it greatly extends how long the first stage lasts. This allows the solid boosters to run out before the first liquid stage, fixing the staging problem we had, and give us more thrust for longer (as the liquid boosters in the first stage provide 2000 thrust each), which allows us to reach a higher speed before it runs out of fuel. It lets us get more out of the later stages, as we are higher before dropping the first liquid stage, and going faster when we do switch to them.

We also fixed a small staging issue with activating the orbiter's engines before the lander's engines.

With all the fixes, we are able to get into orbit around Kerbin, although we do need to use a bit of the orbiter's fuel to do so. After that, we plan a transfer to the moon, and use about 1/2 of the orbiter's fuel to get there and achieve orbit. The orbit isn't directly around the Mun's equator, but being at an angle actually helps us cross more biomes and gather more science.

And so we start gathering science in orbit. We get a reading from all of our instruments (everything except a pressure sensor) in orbit, and we notice that EVA reports and Gravity readings are per biome that we are over. So we attempt to get some more reports and gravity readings from other biomes. After we collect 4 readings, we send Nelrie and Seefrey into the lab to process the readings. This takes some time, and a lot of power, which we do run out of, but we are able to recharge in the sunlight with our solar panels, and finish processing and then transmitting our results before we loose sunlight behind the Mun.

After we are back in the sunlight, we clean the experiments, and bring Nelrie and Seefrey back into the capsule, as we see our orbit will bring us over the same biomes again, so we decide to plan a landing since science in orbit will be repeats.

We head for the top edge of the Twin Craters, and while it looks like we may not be able to slow down in time, our 4 engines do have more than enough power to land safely. We land, takes some science readings, get out and get an EVA report, take a surface sample, and plant the first flag on the Mun!
