Kerbal Space Program First Contract 15
I'm back playing more Kerbal Space Program, First Contract, continuing my mission to the Mun!
Last time we gathered all the science that we could at our first landing site, except for a crew report, which we gather now. Since there is no more to do here, we plan to make a small hop to another crater that's nearby that should be in a different biome.
We start our engines, and head in the direction of the crater, and slow down over it and touch down. We start gathering science, but we quickly that we aren't in the biome we thought we would be in. This doesn't matter as we are in the Midlands, which we haven't been in yet, although it would have been nice to gather science from the Midlands Craters that we were expecting, as they cover much less area of the Mun and so are harder to find.
After we gather all the science we can, Nelrie decides to attempt to EVA to a nearby crater to see if that is the one that is the midlands crater biome. He travels almost 4 km away before having to return because he is at 1/2 fuel while still being about 1km from the crater he wanted to check out. He returns to the ship and gets in with less than 1% of his fuel left! Because of that, attempts to examine other close craters are called off, and we decide to return to orbit to refuel and process the science readings because only about 1/3 of the ship's fuel is left. We reach an orbit that is just under 20 km, and then we align our orbit with the science orbiter's. Two orbits later, and we have caught up to it and we begin to attempt to dock with it.
We pass by it on our first attempt to dock, but we then aim the docking port of the ship at the orbiter, and then control the orbiter and aim it's docking port at the ship, and keep them aiming at each other as they come closer and have no more trouble docking.
Since we docked on the dark side, we come around to the light side, and start analyzing the science after refueling the ship. We analyze everything and radio it back home except for the soil samples, which are worth the most science, and so we will attempt to bring them home for full credit.
Since we refueled up the ship, we will take another trip down to the surface to different locations, but that will be next time. See you then!
