Last Scenario is a role playing game made in RPGMaker by SCF. A rather typical kind of rpg, but with enough twists and an interesting story to make the journey well worth taking.

The latest version of the game can always be found here:

Time to go clear out a tunnel of some rabid monsters...then find a place called Archaeopolis in the process of looking for enemies to delete. That works too I guess!

All the new enemies here have some kind of annoying trait about them that you'll have to watch out for.

Mantises tend to come in groups of 3-4 and are only a bit slower than Hilbert. Only use physical attacks, but the damage is going to be enough to drop the likes of Ethan or Lorenza if they get focused too much. They also drop their own Hex tile as well as Mole Hunter tiles.

Black Iguanas are fairly docile at first, but are capable of using Glaring Eye which, despite doing light damage and being rather inaccurate, has a chance to inflict petrify on the entire party. Annoying, but at least it's not their Fatal Gaze attack which can instantly kill a target.

Finally, there's the Flothark who's accompanied by several Jellies. The Jellies can use Water Gun for some ok water damage to a target...or if they feel cheeky, can aim it at the Flothark to heal it. The big cheese itself can Eerie Tentacle a target for some decent damage + silence or Tidal Wave the entire party for comparable water damage and potentially inflict slow. Magic only for taking these monsters down because they have nearly maxed out vitality.

Also, Flotharks have Gelatinous Coats to steal. While the armor lowers the wearer's speed by 10, getting water absorption in return is mighty nice.

While there's a couple ornate chests with a couple key items to unlock a door early on, the real gimmick comes in the form of two rooms with some moving platforms. Seems innocent enough...until you realize they are not synced up at all, meaning you often have to wait on a platform until it lines up with another platform that leads to treasure.

Besides some random stat boosting capsules in a few chests, there's some interesting items in the rest and they're as follows...

Moon Ring - Accessory that boosts vit & res by 20

Holy Water - Casts the strongest single target light elemental attack in the game

Rage - New spellcard! For 85 mp, this hits a target with 4-5 non elemental magic blasts that ignore the enemy's resistance. If the target dies midway through the blasts, it targets a new enemy. Unlike other offensive spells, each blast has a chance to miss.

Rage's crisis ability is equally useful. Called Erosion, it costs 0 mp to do some extreme earth damage to all enemies. The catch? It lowers the caster's hp to 1.

As for cutscenes, the first one comes after opening the first locked door. The team finds a room that looks oddly familiar, including an inscription written in the Havali alphabet, suggesting that the Havali perhaps were not just confined to the Empire's continent.

Once you hit the save point and heal/save up, moving to its north triggers a boss fight against some random guardian named Thanatos.

Thanatos decides to be a cheeky little bastard and make his two hands separate targets. The Left Arm uses Wind Fist while the Right Arm can use Earth Fist, both fairly strong attacks that hit a single target.

Thanatos himself though is oddly tame. Dark Ray doesn't hit as hard as the elemental fists of his arms, Haunting hits a single target for some damage + blind, Creepy Touch does damage as well + enfeeble, and Black Wave is a literal joke.

Still, there's one move that saves Thanatos from the depths of the joke boss difficulty pile and that is Death's Breath. This hits everyone and lowers their hp to 1. Good for charging up everyone's crisis bar, but there's a bigger danger to this move and that's the Right Arm. It's slightly slower than Thanatos, meaning it can easily take someone down after a Death's Breath.

As for steals, Left Arm has a Life Capsule, Right Arm a Resistance Capsule, and Thanatos has the counterpart to the Holy Water, the Unholy Water.

Hp wise, Left Arm has 3.5k hp (weak vs wind, immune to earth), Right Arm 4.5k (weak vs earth, immune to wind), and Thanatos has 11k (weak to light, resistant to fire/ice/lightning, immune to dark).

First order of business...take out the Right Arm quickly to prevent Death's Breath from setting it up to knock someone out. Once that happens and the Left Arm is taken out too, the fight's as good as over with since Thanatos doesn't have enough power to carry the fight on its own.

Drops from the battle are a Shaman Staff for Lorenza that deals earth damage and a new Hex tile, Sphynx.

The room beyond has more Havali based designs, including a tomb for a king, but nothing that helps Drakovic with carving an easy route to Stonewall. We'll have to report back to him next time and see what our next move is.
