Launch Day Madness: We Got These Video Game Systems On Their Launch Days
When it comes to new video game systems, launch day is one of the most exciting, along with the day pre-orders open up. We've recently shared our journey when trying to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 at launch, and we were successful with that pre-order. While this isn't the first time I've gotten a system at launch, it's only happened in the last 20 years or so semi-regularly. What was the first system I got at launch? What other systems have I gotten? Let's see what systems I went through launch day madness with.
Nintendo Wii
When the Wii came out, I had just gone through a really bad divorce and I needed something to go ahead and take my mind off of things. I did get a Wii at launch, and it's the system I showed here. Now prior to this I got my NES probably 2 years after launch for Christmas, my Super NES about a month or so after launch, my N64 a month or so after launch, the same with the Gamecube. The
NIntendo Wii, this oe here, this was the first video game system I remember getting at launch.
NEW Nintendo 3DS:
Now, after the Wii, I got my new Nintendo 3DS. I had a 3DS and I liked it, but I wanted the larger screens and the right stick. There was also the promise of exclusive titles. I think there were like 3 exclusive to the New 3DS. While this was an OK system overall, I just didn't play it as much as I thought I would.
Mini/Classic Systems
From the NES Classic, Super NES Classic, Super Famicom Classic, Famicom Classic, the PlayStation Classic, Genesis 1 Genesis 2 Classic, TurboGrafx 16 Classic, if it came out I likely got one. With a lot of these guys if you didn't get them at launch you didn't get them because they were one and done.
Nintendo Switch
Even though I wasn't that excited for the Switch coming out of the Wii U, at the time it was a really cool system and concept. For me I never played in handheld mode all that much, but I played a ton in docked mode. The Switch helped put this channel on the map as well.
Nintendo Switch Lite
To follow up on the Switch, I got my wife her Switch Lite on launch day. I really think the Switch Lite is actually a better system for handheld mode over the original Nintendo Switch, it's more comfortable, it has a real D-Pad, and is a better overall handheld experience.
PlayStation 5
Not to let Nintendo have all the fun I got my PlayStation 5 at launch. This has been an exceptional system for me since I got it, with so many titles I love playing on it. Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is one of the best I've ever played. Astro's Playroom and Astro Bot are 2 other fantastic titles. I'm very happy that I got a PS5 at launch.
Nintendo Switch OLED and the Mario Edition Nintendo Switch OLED
I got both of these systems on their launch days, and you know what, I've enjoyed both of them. Not only the OLED screen but also the better kickstand, enhanced speakers, on board Bluetooth audio, and more, these are amazing improvements over the original.
