Building large scale application is more difficult than many people understand or expect. Join me in this long running series where I set out to duplicate one of the most popular social media platforms ever creating using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, PostgreSQL data, React JS web application framework and more.

In this episode we wrap up working on the reacting to messages feature. All we had left to complete this feature was to setup a popup modal which displays every user who reacted along with their reaction, the logged in user also gets the change to undo a reaction from this modal. To do this we simply added a new div inside of our MessageReactionContainer which popups up when the user clicks on the container itself. We added some logic to determine where to place the modal depending on who sent the message the reactions belong to and if there is enough space to display it below the message. After getting the modal setup we worked on the CSS and fixed a bug inside of the ConversationContainer to wrap up the episode.
