We're on to the real part of the game now, and once again, we're starting with the ice stage. This is Freeze Man's stage, and it's not all that difficult. It's not amazingly easy either, but the main difficulty here is getting the items, of which there are three: the Rush Search, the Exit Module (which you'll probably never find without cheating), and the "H" icon, which will be important later. There are ice physics to deal with, of course, as well as pits and the ubiquitous spikes that plague Mega Man games. Also, the two items that you actually could get without some sort of game guide are placed in such a way that if you mess up trying to get them, you can't go back and try again. Freeze Man himself is...well, mid-range difficulty as far as Mega Man bosses go. He's not too hard once you get the hang of him, but he'll almost certainly wipe the floor with you your first few attempts. He can freeze the floor (don't get caught in the spreading ice, or your feet will freeze), he can throw ice projectiles at you, he can make icicles fall from the ceiling, and he jumps whenever you shoot him. It's actually a pretty fun battle once you're good enough at it not to get your butt kicked. Beating Freeze Man gives us a small cutscene where Mega Man asks Dr. Light for confirmation about what the weapon does, and Dr. Light usually affirms and adds something. (This is the only game where that happens, by the way; all the other just go to the weapon get screen.) Then there's a standard weapon get screen. In this case, we have obtained the Freeze Cracker, a snowflake-shaped projectile that can be directed diagonally upward or downward and splits into six smaller pieces when it hits a surface. It's not a bad weapon, but not terribly useful except for using it against bosses weak to it or enemies out of range of the Mega Buster. Actually, this weapon will be important for a certain boss...but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
