When an evil god decides it’s time to shake things up with some worldwide conflict, there’s only one thing we can do to save the world: find the champion of said evil god and firmly tell him that we’re not interested in ruination and despair. When I say ‘firmly tell’, I of course mean ‘absolutely and utterly defeat in combat’, an epic undertaking that will involve kingdom management, raising armies, diplomacy and no small amount of having at thee.
Lords of Magic is a strategy game very unlike others I’ve played in that it combines turn based map navigation with real time combat that can be paused at any time. It’s a slow and steady endeavour that’s subtly different every time you play it, giving it incredible replay value. I spent many an evening saving Urak from Balkoth in my youth and now it’s time to once again return that ancient and magical land to be its savoir… hopefully.
