It looks like the long and difficult efforts of the captain to save his crew are just about over. We’ve only one person left to save and we’re right by the teleporter that’ll let us do that. Once they’re back on the ship they can work towards going back to their own dimension and away from the strange place they got trapped in. Many questions however remain, like how they got trapped in the first place and what happened there? More importantly, how can they stop this from happening to their own dimension?

Are the answers closer to hand to hand then they think or are there no answers at all? Either way, getting back to the ship is just a matter of going through the teleporter, right? ...Right?

What can I say about VVVVVV that I haven’t already while playing? I had lots of experience with the music but none with the game itself, put off from playing it by the daunting difficulty of the puzzles and the prospect of recording entire videos where I made no progress at all. I’m happy to say that not only was the game far less punishing then I thought it would be, but it’s also huge fun. The gameplay appears simple but has levels of complexity that you don’t even realise you’re learning as you play, slowly being shown new puzzles that get woven into later challenges effortlessly. The graphics are distinctive and beautiful, paying homage to computer systems of the past and I need not comment on how awesome the music is. The game is short but it neither outstays its welcome nor does it feel too brief. The puzzles are difficult but the checkpoint system rarely punishes you for failure beyond losing a few seconds, allowing you get right back into play and try again. As for the optional collectibles, they’re a welcome edition that adds increased difficulty for those brave enough to seek them out. All in all, this game is fantastic and my only regrets are that I didn’t play it sooner and that there isn’t more of it for me to experience. If you want to a short and wonderful platformer to challenge you, I thoroughly recommend this one.

So, what’s next? After this platformer I feel like playing another and not just any one either. I think it’s time to pay a visit to a series I’ve never played before that’s near and dear to the hearts of many, a game from the heyday of shareware. Saying that alone has probably spoiled what it is, so I’ll speak no more of it and let the guessing commence.

See you next let’s play!
