Let's Try Linux - Part 4: Manjaro 19.0.2 [KDE Plasma]

For PART 4 of our LETS TRY LINUX SERIES, I delve into the world of the MANJARO DISTRO. Set in the KDE PLASMA DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT, I try to come to terms with a DISTRO based on ARCH LINUX and attempt to customise my DESKTOP experience with its range of options.
MANJARO offers the USER a rich and professional experience, valuing simplicity and privacy over the more flashy features of some other DISTROS, or even WINDOWS and MAC.
Being an ARCH LINUX derivative can make MANJARO somewhat difficult to use for the newbie like myself and I did have issues getting it to run soomthly and efficiently inside a VIRTUAL MACHINE. Whilst I'm well aware MANJARO will probably be a lot more reliable upon a full install, my experience with it in the VM put me off a bit from returning to use it, either as a VM or a full install on a new device. I had a great deal of trouble getting VMWARE TOOLS installed, either through the WORKSTATION package or the open-VMWARE-tools package that comes pre-installed with MANJARO. Needless, to say, no matter what I tried it didn't work and my time with MANJARO was spoiled because of it.
There are other DISTROS which I allocated less resources to that still out performed MANJARO in terms of speed and system usage, but I feel that has a lot to do with not being able to get VMWARE TOOLS working.
Overall, I don't want to give a final verdict on MANJARO as a DISTRO, because I know a few excellent techies who swear by it, so there's obviously something to be had here. That said, I don't think it's too friendly for the average user and I wouldn't reccommend it if you're thinking of setting up a VIRTUAL MACHINE or coming to LINUX for the first time.
