For the past year or so, I've been enamoured with GAMES from a genre known as METROIDVANIA. These games blend elements of CASTLEVANIA and METROID to form deep, rich, often challenging 2D PLATFORMERS that provide hours of enjoyment and great value for money.

Often developed by INDIE developers, they aren't constrained to make GAMES that fit the same old mold and so often provide fresh and unique experiences and definitely push the boat out on a classic formula.

COMBAT is simple, worlds are interconnected and the games are very STORY driven. They're always crafted with amazing art style and attention to detail and provide hours of well-paced GAMEPLAY.

I can't get enough of them and since owning a NINTENDO SWITCH, I keep finding myself coming back to METROIDVANIA titles, trying to find the next one which will grip me and challenge me for a good many weeks.

METROIDVANIA GAMES are simple in premise, but often complex in design and what developers can do with such a simple template is often amazing.
