[Mage] Daggerfall Unity [17] | The Emperor's Courier | Uriel Septim VII's Letter | Queen Mynisera
Welcome back to The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, a role-playing game originally made by Bethesda for the MS Dos. For this playthrough, we are using the Unity remake of the game and a lot of mods to enhance the experience. The game involves navigating the sensitive political landscape of the Illiac Bay, a region of Tamriel on the fictional planet of Nirn comprising of the countries within the bay as well as the various fragmented powers surrounding it on both High Rock and Hammerfell. We have been sent to the place on a mission by our Emperor Uriel Septim VII to investigate two curious instances, the shade of King Lysandus that roams the streets of Daggerfall at night and a letter that he sent to the Queen of Daggerfall a few years ago that never reached her. Despite being a dungeon crawler at heart, Daggerfall places a lot of emphasis upon the player's individual exploration as choosing one among the various political factions in the region as they navigate the complex mess that is the Illiac Bay. In this playthrough, we will be playing as a Spellcaster and will shift our focus towards the Mages' Guild and the Order of Arkay.
After getting some time to ponder upon the implications of what Cyndassa's brother's lover had told him about the Letter from Emperor Uriel Septim VII, Strangeblood decides that the best course of action would be confront Mynisera about the letter and ask her whether it was ever delivered to her. It could be that Queen Aubk-i never delivered the letter and it could very well be that Mynisera is somehow playing a fool. Approaching Queen Aubk-i would be foolish because of the political implications of the same.
However, talking to Queen Mother Mynisera is another task altogether for he has to break the rules of the court of Daggerfall and enter the private chambers of the Dowager Queen herself. As a result, Strangeblood enters the court and dallies around for a while there, waiting for his magicka to recharge and casts invisibility the first thing he can. Once that is done, he finds and opens the doors to Mynisera's chambers. He heads inside with the guards no doubt angry at him, but unable to see him because of the spell he had cast. None in the court could, in fact, except for the vampire occupying the place. Lucky for Strangeblood, his games very intricate enough to where he didn't care about Strangeblood's little indiscretions.
Upon talking to Mynisera, it turns out that the Dowager Queen had never received the letter. Instead, she sent him to investigate the matter with the Emperor's trusted courier and gave him a ring to wear to signify Mynsiera's trust in him. But since a courier keeps moving, Strangeblood would have to meet someone in the office to find out where to find the courier next.
So Strangeblood heads to Tuntower to find this official and shows him the Queen Mother's ring. The official, Moorsmith, tells him that the courier is scheduled to arrive at Singcroft in 60 days and warns him of the consequences should this be a trap with how he had disembowelled the last person that tried tricks.
Finally, on the day of the courier's arrival, Strageblood visited Palace Singcroft to find the courier and lo and behold, there he was. While the courier was initially reluctant to respond to Strangeblood, the ring made his lips loose. He said that the letter was addressed to the Queen of Daggerfall, and that is who received it right in front of him. He also gave Strangeblood the emperor's ring as a proof of his service to the Empire.
Strangeblood opted to teleport back to Mynisera's chambers in Daggerfall and it was well past evening at that point in time. He spoke to Mynisera and she explained the situation to him that although the Emperor had written the letter to Queen Mother Mynisera, he had addressed it to the Queen of Daggerfall as a cautionary expedition to make it not seem personal. However, the ploy backfired as by the time the letter reached the court of Daggerfall, King Lysandus had died and Aubk-i had become queen. It was essentially a royal mixup. She instructed Strangeblood to find out what happened to the letter while she does the same.
That is when our poor protagonist faced the wrath of King Lysandus's ghost for the first time as he stepped out into the streets of Daggerfall at night and escaped by the skin of his teeth from an army of Wraiths and Ghosts with King Lysandus's spirit screaming Vengeance.
