Mario Starcatcher 2 (Warpless) Speedrun in 4:37.63 [World Record]
In the Warpless category for this game, you're not allowed to use "warps", which basically consists of rapidly right-clicking the screen and clicking "Play". So, this speedrun beats the game in the manner that the developers intended.
This was a very good run! Since it was only slightly slower than my sum of best segments, I was really happy with how it turned out. Notable shortcuts and glitches in this run:
- In level 4, when jumping off the first platform, you will see that I actually clip inside the ground. All this means is that I jumped from the platform at the farthest possible spot. Later, you see that I activate the second platform by triggering the block from the _side_. Because this block can be triggered only once the platform below has stopped moving, this allows us to hit the block on the first possible frame.
- In level 11, there is a way to only have to wait two banzai bill cycles before collecting the star. This involves jumping out of the second pit on the first or second frame after the banzai bill passes overhead. Head right, and on the exact frame you land, jump again, over the yellow block, fall, and you should barely collect the star before the next banzai bill kills you. This saves about a second.
- In level 12, after coming out of the second pipe, it is possible to clip beneath the bottom platform and grab the star without having to switch the platforms. To do this, jump straight up, and on the fourth frame mario falls from the highest point of this jump, steer left, and the clip should be successful. This saves about four seconds.
Missed tricks:
- In level 3, it's possible to clip through the last two block when falling to the star, instead of bumping them like I did here. It's not a big deal, as that would only save a couple of frames.
- In level 8, it is possible to jump past the goombas without stopping. However, getting past the second goomba requires a frame-perfect jump for minimal time gain, so I don't go for it here.
- In level 13, it is also possible to jump past the first goomba with a frame-perfect jump, but since there's minimal time gain, I don't go for this one either.
