Crystal Man is capable of creating artificial crystal, and even use them as a weapon called Crystal Eye. Mega Man gains this weapon when he defeats him. He's weak to the Gyro Attack, maybe because it cuts away at his crystals.

Also notice the change with the Rush Coil. In Mega Man 3 & 4, Rush pops a coil out of his back that Mega Man can jump on for a boost.

Here, in Mega Man 5, Rush has the coil pop out of his stomach, and when Mega Man lands on him, Rush jumps upward himself to give Mega Man a boost. Mega Man can go higher just by jumping off of Rush at the peak of Rush's jump.
