Randomly picked this one out to try and what a pleasant surprise it is! Emerald Dragon has a great presentation and easy to pick up control system. Combat is like Ys, but in confined combat zones that are turn based. Just press in the direction of the enemy and you attack. This may seem archaic and simple to some, but it still leaves room for some decent strategy you can use to pretty much ensure victory.

This version of the game is unfortunately Japanese-only, having never received a translation. I felt my way through things for many hours before figuring out what to do, but it was still a pleasant experience because the game doesn't have insanely-high random battle rates or anything. Seems you can get through with pretty minimal grinding actually. Computer controlled allies will heal you when low, and have an infinite supply of MP.

The game was developed by Glodia originally for the NEC PC-88/98, and then later ported to the Sharp X68000, MSX2, FM Towns, PC Engine CD, and SNES. The SNES version is the only one that can be played in English currently, via a fan translation, but the game is considerably cut back from its counterparts on other systems. The PC Engine CD version is considered to be the definitive edition of the game, featuring animated cutscenes and voiceovers throughout.

The only English walkthrough for this version of the game was so confusing that I decided to start my own. You can check it out here: https://pastebin.com/Jubk7Q7P

This is a work in progress, and I would guess I've only made it about halfway through the game so far. You can try to decipher the other guide for helpful bits if you get further: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/turbocd/589279-emerald-dragon/faqs/6070

The game looks stunning with the Original PC Engine palette. One suggestions though, when dealing with Turbografx/CD games in general: I suggest taking precaution when adding additional gamma correction, as you will notice its effects a bit more than most other systems, even at low values. SNES is like this as well. You can easily alter the composition of the scene to something it is not intended, with high values.

MiSTer's PC Engine core was transformed into the most accurate way to play this console besides original hardware, largely in part thanks to efforts by srg320. He also created our SNES and Sega CD cores, and is now currently working on a Sega Saturn core for MiSTer.
