MiSTer FPGA - The Last Blade 2 / Neo Geo
0Last Blade 2 is awesome, as is the first game in the series. Fans of Samurai Shodown should feel right at home here. Still learning this one, and making some decent progress with a couple characters. In this video I play as Speed-type Moriya up to stage 6. Hoping to get a 1cc in this one soon, but will probably need to use Power-type for that, as it seems much more effective VS CPU.
The fighting system in this is rather deep, though it has very easy execution for the most part. Check a moves list here: https://strategywiki.org/wiki/The_Last_Blade_2/Moves , and be sure to try out many different characters, as they all have pretty unique fighting styles, that can be further modified depending on if you choose Speed or Power type.
Presentation is top notch in this series. The amount of work spent on animation frames for characters is insane, and conveys the fluidity of motion very well. Audio presentation is also very good. Nice crisp sound effects and a great soundtrack.
There is a Neo Geo CD version of the game that includes an extra character, quiz mode, voiced cutscenes, and a gallery section featuring art from both Last Blade titles. I hope we see Neo Geo CD on MiSTer some day, since many CD titles have exclusive content. Also would love to try the CD-only Samurai Shodown RPG.
The Neo Geo core was mostly made by Furrtek, who decapped the chips of the console to gain a new understanding of how the system works, resulting in the excellent MiSTer core you see today.
