MiSTer FPGA - Sengoku 3 (戦国伝承2001) / Neo Geo
0Sengoku 3 is a mixed bag. On one hand it has great animation, artwork, and sound with a very solid combat system featuring air juggles, cancels and specials. On the other hand, the layout and progression of the game leaves a lot to be desired. The choice to re-use a bunch of the same exact areas in later portions really drags the whole thing down quite a bit. It becomes monotonous having to re-do those same areas and the enemy variety is lacking as well. Overall this is a good beat em up, but not on the level of better offerings in the genre from Capcom and Konami.
Items are best avoided in this game, since you will find yourself dying trying to grab them often times because of how stupidly quick they disappear. It's a trap.
It also does not feel good having to do multiple combos on a piece of furniture or a trash can to get an item out of it in the first place.
The Neo Geo core was mostly made by Furrtek, who decapped the chips of the console to gain a new understanding of how the system works, resulting in the excellent MiSTer core you see today.
