"It's like someone just took all the melee classes' mechanics and gave them to a ranged class, and called it Stormbringer." - Yours truly, on Stormbringers

A week ago, I was asked how I felt about Stormbringers, and the above quote was my response. However, I thought, why not take it a bit further and actually play a Stormbringer? And so, we have this video. Unfortunately though, Perfect World Void has been rather dead recently, so this video will consist of mostly 1v1s. Though, I personally find it better to start off with 1v1s when playing a new class anyway.

So I think the main thing to note here, is that as of this video, I have played Stormbringer for less than a week. Yet, you can see me convincingly defeat people who played their class significantly longer than I have played Stormbringer. I would say that Stormbringers are very strong, maybe even borderline overpowered. It seems almost as if everyone was too busy trying to nerf Duskblades (which is definitely overpowered, of course) that no one paid enough attention to Stormbringers to realize that they are just as powerful.

I've had several people remark that the class is not overpowered, and that I am merely a "good stormbringer". Yet, if you ask me, I haven't even begun to tap into the full potential of the class yet. I've played Assassin for 7 years; Stormbringer for less than a week. Imagine if I had played Stormbringer for just as long...

Stormbringers do have one major weakness though - they are squishy in base form. They don't have a Wizard's Stone Barrier, nor a Cleric's or Mystic's Pdef buff, nor a Psychic's White Voodoo. They do have a transformation like Venomancer, but they can't freely switch in and out of it at will. This makes them very vulnerable if they get caught. However, on this server, Perfect World Void, Stormbringers have the option to use a Gear Swap Script that automatically changes all their ornaments (both rings, not just one) to 2x Reduce Physical Damage +2%. This ability nullifies this weakness for the most part, making them an all around powerful class. However, I am not using this script in this video, even though I have been using it on my Assassin. This is mainly out of laziness more than anything else. Although it is interesting to note that various Stormbringer mains have remarked that Stormbringers are underpowered without scripting.

A Stormbringer's strength comes from their CC and Mobility. Against melee classes like Assassins and Barbarians, you can chain immunity and CCs for days, giving them very little opportunity to even touch you. I find Barbs have an even harder time hitting a Stormbringer than they do against an Archer, and Archers are supposed to be THE kite + range lock class. Even ranged classes aren't immune to the amount of CCs a Stormbringers can chain together. They can lock you down almost as long as a BM can, and it is much easier too since a lot of Stormbringer's CC skill overlap with itself. They are essentially a ranged BM, if you will.

Stormbringer is a powerful class. However, I don't think I will be playing it too much personally. The main reason is that I feel that the class relies too much on burst damage. A Stormbringer cannot really kill anyone by just chaining CC and spamming their basic skill alone. Instead, they rely a lot on stacking the Thundersnow DoT, and then doing a huge burst damage with Call Lightning and Frozen Lightning. This limits their killing ability to only once every 30 seconds, and it's not even guaranteed. Even though it is nice to be able to move while casting and CC my opponents for days, this limitation alone is far too great of a draw back compared to what I am capable of doing on my Assassin.

However, it is worth noting that a lot of this may be server dependent. Similar to Archers, the performance of Stormbringers is going to be highly susceptible to damage and defense adjustments. From what I've heard, Stormbringers were originally considered weak on Perfect World Void, and were boosted into its current state. Though, I think it is worth considering that Nightshades are a relatively new race. People can't expect to jump on this class and expect to instantly be able to compete with the years of experience people have playing the original classes.

So fear not, for this is merely a temporary Climate Shift. Soon, I will be back on my Assassin once more. But for now, I hope you enjoy the video!
