"Serendipity always rewards the prepared." - Katori Hall

I wouldn't mind it if I had to play 1.3 a little longer, I think. Sure, Evolved Perfect World isn't ever going to be my number one server of choice, but in and of itself, Evolved is not that bad. Nevertheless, whether you like it or hate it, there aren't many options to choose from anyway. With many people nostalgic for an active 1.3 server, and with barely any competitors to boot, it seems as if Evolved managed to stumble upon the perfect opportunity, and was prepared to take advantage of it. Perhaps this is what we call, Serendipity.

But serendipity is also what we might use to describe how Assassins operate on 1.4/1.5. As it turns out, it also happens to be how Archers operate on Evolved PW. Serendipity, rather than luck.

If you don't have a plan, you can let luck be your guide. Luck doesn't care if you win or lose. Yet, it is undeniable that some people consistently performs better than others on what are supposedly luck based class. Are some people just luckier than others? Is statistics broken? Or perhaps, it is Serendipity.

Serendipity rewards the prepared. Sure, it didn't take any skill to land that stun through tidal, or that zerk crit, but being able to take that small advantage and snowballing it into a win condition is what separates luck from skill. You are not lucky that you won, but rather, it is serendipitous that a favourable situation arised, and you were able to take advantage of it. All the luck on the world may not save you if you are in the wrong mindset. Yet, if you know what you are looking for, a minor shift in advantage is all you need.

Now, as far as Archers go, on 1.5, we are accustomed to the notion of Archers being this very consistent class with predictable DPS. Yet on Evolved, between probability of Quickshot proc, high probability of Missing, probability of Darken proc, probability of Stunning Arrow/Aim Low proc, and low Critical Hit rate, Archers are anything but. And maybe for that reason, people have come to view Archers on Evolved as this OP, easy to play class. Yet, this goes back to the same concept as Assassins. An Archer on Evolved isn't doing anything special to get that Quickshot and Darken proc. But positioning yourself such that getting a proc leads to a kill is another story. This is because unlike Assassins, Archers on Evolved lack an escape strategy that they can fall back to in the event that things aren't working out for them. Here, an Archer's only defense is a good offense. So there is still a lot of burden placed onto the Archer to get into a position that will allow them to get their procs to happen, as opposed to getting retaliated against.

Consequently, I would say that this design ends up making Archers a terrible solo class. When alone, an Archer doesn't have a lot of ways to position around their opponents, nor are their many ways to tank them. So getting their procs not only becomes a necessity to kill, but also a necessity to survive. This removes Archers from serendipity, and back into the territory of luck. It is for that reason that I ultimately am deciding to no longer play Archers on Evolved PW. Because as ridiculous as it may sound, Assassins, a class relying almost entirely on probabilities, actually barely relies on luck. And relying on luck is not something that I enjoy doing.

And so, in this video, you will see that my playstyle will revolve mainly around trying to out-position my opponents by using the environment to my advantage (since there is no T-Menu/Tab targetting on 1.3). I haven't played Archer in a long time, much less a Demon one, but DPSing on a Demon Archer isn't the most complicated mechanic at least. Additionally having a second Archer assisting on my targets make killing them significantly easier, as procs will occur more often. I'd definitely recommend bringing a friend if you're going to pk on Archer. If you check my gears, you'll also see that I elected to use -12% channeling ornaments instead of defense ornaments. My justification for this is simply because 0% channeling Archer is actually awfully slow, to the point that I can't really react with anything at all when someone targets me. Yet, going fully -channeling lowers Archer accuracy and damage far too much, and Archers are not able to achieve true insta (nocast) anyway. Plus, even in full defense ornaments, Wizards are still able to kill me instantly regardless. So -24% channeling seemed like a good compromise.

With that said, I hope you enjoy the video!
