Before starting Surprise Trade, I enter a Mystery Gift code which gives a Gold Bottle Cap, and another bit of news, Pokémon HOME, which is supposed to receive an update next week, has been delayed, I have five Pokémon trained up for the next set of online battles, but I am holding off online battles I am waiting for Pokémon HOME for the sixth Pokémon, well the Pokémon is available in the game, but not the type of Poké Ball it is in, and I have a Pokémon of that species in Pokémon HOME in that type of Poké Ball, and I cannot get that type of Poké Ball in this game.
For this week's Surprise Trade, I will be trading Hatenna, and I usually breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, and there are some that have 0 IVs in Speed for Trick Room, as I do have a Ditto with 31 IVs in 5 stats and 0 IVs in Speed, but it is not a traded Ditto, making breeding harder.
I went with Quiet for the Nature, as it is best for Trick Room teams, and I did go for Magic Bounce, the Hidden Ability as this is the one you will want when using the Hatenna line in battle, neither Anticipation or Healer are that good for online battles.
For Egg Moves, it learns After You, Mystical Fire, Nuzzle, and Quash, and for Pokémon that can learn those moves, it can get After You from Lilligant, Oranguru, and Indeedee, and there are various Pokémon that learn it as an Egg Move, Mystical Fire from Gardevoir, Mismagius, or Armarouge, Quash from Murkrow or Sableye, and Nuzzle from many Electric-type Pokémon like Pachirisu, Dedenne, Toxel, and Pawmi. Out of these moves, Mystical Fire is a good move to have on Hatenna and its evolved forms to give it a Fire-type move to use in battle.
Hatenna does evolve quite late, it evolves into Hattrem at Level 32, and its final evolution of Hatterene isn't until Level 42. For level up moves, it learns Confusion, Play Nice, Life Dew, Disarming Voice, Aromatic Mist, Psybeam, Heal Pulse, Dazzling Gleam, Calm Mind, Psychic, and Healing Wish. It learns Brutal Swing upon evolving into Hattrem, and while it does get Psychic at Level 44, Hatterene learns it at Level 46, it is best to keep it as a Hattrem for two levels to get Psychic earlier. Hatterene learns Psycho Cut upon evolution, and its signature move is Magic Powder, which it learns at Level 64, this changes the target's type to Psychic.
Next are TMs, it learns Charm, Magical Leaf, Draining Kiss, Swift, Stored Power, Psyshock, Shadow Claw, Reflect, Light Screen, Thunder Wave, Swords Dance, Dark Pulse, Trick, Giga Drain, Shadow Ball, Play Rough, Baton Pass, Psychic Terrain, Misty Terrain, Giga Impact, Trick Room, Hyper Beam, and Tera Blast. I always tend to underestimate Hatterene's base 90 Attack stat, because this Pokémon has a very high Special Attack stat, and base 90 is equal to Mimikyu, and that's even higher than Talonflame's base 81 Attack.
Hatterene is one of the main Pokémon for Trick Room teams in both Single Battles and in Double Battles. Hatterene is ranked 57th in the current format in Single Battles, its most notable moves are Dazzling Gleam and Psychic, and there is Psyshock for an alternative for a Psychic-type move to target Special walls, and Mystical Fire is there to take on Steel-type Pokémon. Fire is a popular Tera Type for Hatterene, as this increases the power of Mystical Fire, and while it is a good user of the Assault Vest, this means Hatterene has to use a move in place of Trick Room, some examples are Draining Kiss, Shadow Ball, or Giga Drain. While it isn't in the top compared to other Psychic-types like Gardevoir or Espathra, or Fairy-type Pokémon like Flutter Mane, Sylveon, and Tinkaton, it is still a solid Pokémon.
Double Battles are where Hatterene can make use of Trick Room, it is ranked 50th in the current format, it faces competition with Indeedee or Farigiraf as a Trick Room set up Pokémon. Its best teammates are slow Pokémon like Torkoal, Iron Hands, and Kingambit, which can work best when Trick Room is active. Dazzling Gleam and Psychic are its main moves, and Mystical Fire pairs well with its Fire Tera Type, Hatterene can even go with a different Tera Type, like Water for Tera Blast, or Steel to resist the types it is weak to.
With Tera Raid battles, Hatterene is a solid option, it faces competition with Sylveon and Azumarill as a Fairy-type when it comes to Tera Raid counters, it is good as a Psychic-type, but there are other options, like Slowbro and Armarouge which can set up Psychic Terrain and have ways to weaken the opponnet's stats or boost their own stats. I did read about Pokémon HOME where you can teach the Pokémon any move if they were in Sword & Shield, and if that is the case, Hatterene can get Expanding Force and Misty Explosion, but it is fine with the moves it can get in this game, I really hope you can teach any move they can learn without having to use Armorite Ore or use a TR in Sword & Shield.
