Mount & Blade is a sandbox role-playing video game without a main goal. The player awakens in the world and is left to their own devices within the context of Calradia. There is no guiding hand, no call to adventure, nor are there any markers indicating where the player should go. Mount & Blade contains a lot of things for the player to do, but they need to figure out a reason to find those activities on their own. Does this game demonstrate how unnecessary an RPG’s main quest is, or is a properly directed series of objectives fatally absent?
