R-Type Final 2 Stage 1.0 with Grace Note R-Typer
This video is part of a much larger set that will encompass the Ship Showcase. This is the thirteenth video I recorded for this playlist.
Ships in this series: Shooting Star, Grace Note, Hot Conductor, Concertmaster
The Grace Note is a ship with a long range Wave Cannon beam that you have to leave on the enemy to deal maximum damage over time, so you don't get burst damage like with most ships. The red weapon fires two lasers straight ahead. The blue weapon fires two lasers at 45 degree angles from the top and bottom of the Force. The yellow weapon fires a beam that drops artillery above and below the beam. The Defensive Force fires in a tight X shaped pattern when detached and behaves like a Standard Force when it is. I used the Scatter Bomb missile for its AoE blast on contact - in my opinion, one of the most useful missiles.
The first stage is an abandoned space station taken over by the Bydo, and if you play on R-Typer, Dobkeratops is free from the ice that encased it on lower difficulties. There is a safe spot up top near the boss where the beams won't hit you. You do have to deal enough damage to its weak point to make the boss fire its giant beam, allowing you to charge the Wave Cannon and get a shot in. If you don't deal enough damage, it will continue firing the circular beams at you until it times out.
The Grace Note was a long range ship in R-Type Tactics. Paired with the Midnight Eye, you could snipe Bydo from far away with its Wave Cannon. I usually had one or two with my team in the Space Corp mission. It was highly useful in RTT. The Wave Cannon isn't quite as good in the shmup version of R-Type, but it's still one of my favorite ships overall.
