Return To Genesis | Galactic Rescue - Blast Processing
Return To Genesis is a shooter that is emblematic of many games for home computers in the late 80s and early 90s. It is fast, loud and unforgiving. But is it any good?

There are a lot of space shooters out there. For better or worse, Firebird Software decided to add their contribution in the late 80s with Return To Genesis.
The game clearly takes significant inspiration from Defender, with horizontal scrolling and the ability to change direction. The speed with which the game moves and the limited field of vision make the game feel claustrophobic and chaotic. It can often be difficult to even see enemies, let alone keep track of their fire.
Upon first playing the game, it is easy to write it off as an unrefined knock-off of other classic titles. But there is something more to this game that is hard to quantify. It takes a while to unpack, but it burns into your memory with alarming ease. Could this be a possible contender for an unlikely remake in the future?
