Riding Fight | Front View Speed Action - Blast Processing
It's always frustrating when you stumble upon a game somewhere, play it for a bit, enjoy it and then never see it again. In the glory days of the arcade this was a common occurance, particularly for games that didn't see a home port. Riding Fight was the kind of game that you'd try in vain to convince your friends was real, but could never find the evidence after that one fated day in an out-of-the-way arcade.

Released in the early 90s amidst a tidal wave of arcade beat-em-ups, Riding Fight managed to bring some interesting twists to the otherwise familiar genre. Condiently subtitled as a 'Front View Speed Action Game', it took tried-and-true brawling gameplay and mixed it with some clever visual tricks to give it a flavour all of its own.
For the majority of the game, you are blazing through areas at high speeds on your hoverboard, as are your enemies. Keeping track of the oncoming threats, threading the needle through obstacle-laden streets whilst the road ahead bends and extends into the distance, knocking opponents off their board and watching them fly past your viewpoint into oblivion - everything in this game exudes action movie thrills.
And yet, it's a game that rarely appears on lists of 'favourite beat-em-ups'. This is likely due to the game's arcade exclusivity as well as the relatively short length. The unique style and outragous characters definitely make it worth your time if you enjoy beat-em-ups, 80s films and hoverboards.
But then again, who doesn't love all those things?!
