Zombie games are plentiful and there is no better time to play them than Halloween. Is Zombie Revenge a worthy attempt by Sega to break into the undead arena?

Sega has a rich history of high quality beat-em-ups and light gun games, so Zombie Revenge's pedigree is considerable. Set in the same universe as the 'House of the Dead' games, it gives players the opportunity to blast and brawl with the undead in either single player or with a friend.

The game is a little stiff, though, especially compared to other beat-em-ups of the era including those by Sega. It tries to incorporate both fighting mechanics and shooting mechanics, but they never quite mesh as well in the game as they do on paper.

There is still fun to be had here, especially in two-player mode. The Dreamcast port is particularly good, with extra modes and VMU mini-games. It just doesn't reach the highs that would have been expected given Sega's background. Still, a good game to have on the playlist on Halloween!
