Session 1: Mushroom Kingdom (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)
1Super Mario RPG was my first experience with an RPG. I had known about RPGs beforehand, but they never interested me until this game. After this game, I was hooked on them, and I'm actually kinda saddened that turn-based battles are going away in modern RPGs.
So here we have another Mario game where you're off to rescue the princess. And then something else happens. As it turns out, Bowser's not the main villain in this game. Instead it's some group called the "Smithy Gang"? That giant sword must be the ringleader.
I've actually beaten this game many times before, and have gotten pretty good at it (despite my performance early on in this video). So I'm skipping a bunch of battles here and there to up the challenge, plus to make this playthrough last not for-freaking-ever. I will be talking to everyone and going through all the tutorials here. Mario RPG put me into the habit, and I don't intend to break the habit. But I cannot promise I will complete the game 100%. Anybody who's ever played this game should know how hard that can be. I'll try to get everything I can, though.
Fun facts: on the title screen of the game, if no save files have been created yet, the sword isn't in the castle. Of course, this game is years old, so this game has likely been played to death by several people. The fact this copy is so old probably explains the weird graphical glitch at 1:07:58. No, it wasn't the recording.
Another thing is, if you let the screen shake a while after beating Bowser, Mario and Toadstool eventually scroll up off the screen. I also find it interesting that the opening sequence shows scenes that don't actually play out as shown. For example, the castle in the clouds is actually... well, you'll find out later.
And for those wondering, yes, I do know of the glitch that allows you to skip Mack. But I've never been able to do it, and since I'm not playing on an emulator, I don't feel like trying.
So, any guesses on what Toadstool's mystery item in her room is? Maybe it's just a Flower Tab.
