Silent Hill 2 'Retro Fridays' - This game does not hold your hand !!!
Welcome to Retro Friday's where I play the old classic video games I missed out on during my childhood. Today's Retro Friday's game is Silent Hill 2 HD... Yea I know it's the HD version and its very poorly rated but it's the only version I have access to that I am easily able to capture gameplay. I am playing the Xbox One version as I feel you all shudder and squirm lol. So, all gameplay footage has been captured using the Xbox One's built-in capture software in 720p and then upscaled to 1080p for the best resolution I am able to achieve at this moment in time. I will be getting new higher end equipment in the future but until then this will have to do. This is part 2 and it is somewhat of an interesting episode but not for the reasons most would assume... As the title suggests this game really does not hold your hand at all and so exploring and figuring out where to go and what to do is the only way forwards. The big problem with this is it doesn't lend well to half an hour episode since so much time is spent looking around trying to figure out what to do. But with that said we did make some progress forwards, not much, but at least something more
than walking for a half hour like what happened in the first episode although that was the introduction to the game, so you do expect some slow setting up in a horror game. The episode starts with us standing at the wooden table from which we saved our last game, and we make our way back onto the side street and continue following it in the direction away from the main town centre. We eventually come to what looks like the archway of a bridge but it is blocked off to us or so it seems. Pressing the interact button our character crouches down and climbs under a wooden bar and we enter the space under the bridge. It is dark and it is creepy with some strange sounds that make us unnerved but upon finding nothing seemingly at this location we crouch back under the wooden barricade and set back off in the direction we came retracing our steps. Checking the map, it becomes clear that any information we want to see on there we are going to have to locate it by walking and finding it before it will appear on the map. Thats if it even does appear on the map, the only reason I suspect it would be due to the fact all the dead ends we have arrived at are marked in red as a scribble on there. We decide to re-read Mary's letter to see if we can garner any clues from it as to where we should go, and it mentions the park. Checking the map, we see that there is in fact a park just outside of the main town and so we make our way there first. It isn't long though before our path is once again blocked and we cannot proceed, well, at least not going this route. Just as we are about to start heading back up the road, we just came down we notice blood and a dead man laying against a wall. It turns out he has a key for the apartment gate and so checking the map we locate the apartments building and plan a route to get there. All the time we are out in the streets trying to navigate we are being harassed by some strange moving humanoid creatures that make a creepy sound as well as causing a radio we are carrying to burst out radio static noise. It's not worth trying to go up against these things at the moment due to our woeful lack of weapons and healing items so we just avoid them which turns out not to be all that hard. Finally arriving at the apartment building we are blocked access in due to a gate which we were expecting so using the key we acquired we unlock the gate door and head into the apartment complex. After a search of the outside area, we go to the main doors and enter. It is super dark in here to the point of not being able to see anything! I have brightened up the image in post so it's more watchable on YouTube but at first thinking I had messed up and not set my TV brightness correctly there is suddenly a moment while trying to check the map the game tells us we are unable to see it due to it being too dark to see. So, I now realise it's not the TV settings the games actually supposed to be this way. Being a genius, we quickly realise there must be a fuse box or a flashlight somewhere and begin a search... But time has run out and the episode has to come to an end. So sadly, that's as far as we got this time around. Well, I hope you will give the video a watch at least so you can give me some tips and hints as to what I need to do and point me the right direction so I can begin getting some progress under my belt lol. Thanks for checking it out and I hope to see you here again in the future! Take care and stay safe!! CHEERS ALL
