The next Pokémon character is Charizard, now made into its own character, and with the removal of Pokémon Trainer. While Pokémon Trainer did have some drawbacks in Brawl, Charizard did get some improvements in this game, and it is one of the faster heavyweights in the game, it did have one of the slowest walking speeds in Brawl, but it has improved in this game, and Charizard did receive buffs in updates to this game.
In Classic Mode, you fight against characters that use default costumes in Round 1 to 3, and from Rounds 4 and 5, you fight against characters in their alternate costumes, in Round 6, you fight against the Fighting Mii Team, and in the final round, you fight against Master Hand, or on 3.0 or higher, you fight Crazy Hand as well, and on a higher Intensity, you fight Master Core.
Then to go over Charizard's custom moves, as this is the only game in the series to have custom moves, and the only game in the series to have Charizard as a standalone character, first is Flamethrower, Charizard's neutral special, the first custom variant is Fire Fang, which has less range and hits multiple times, and if you let go of the special attack button, Charizard performs an explosive bite, the attack cannot be reflected or absorbed, the other custom variant is Fireball Cannon, which deals less damage than Flamethrower, but they travel further than normal, and Charizard can fire up to three fireballs before ending the attack. Then for Charizard's side special, Flare Blitz, which it received in this game, which is really powerful, but it does damage Charizard when used, the first custom variant is Blast Burn, which is slower and more explosive, the explosion has higher knockback, and Charizard takes more damage, and the other custom variant is Dragon Rush, which deals less damage than Flare Blitz, but it does not take recoil damage when used, and it does not have a fire effect, it has less knockback as well, and it is used as a basic attack as Mega Charizard X, which Charizard Mega Evolves into for its Final Smash. Charizard's up special is Fly, the first custom variant is Rising Cyclone, which has reduced movement distance, but it does pull in opponents and launches them, and the other variant is Fly High, which has increased flight distance, but it does not deal damage. Next is Rock Smash, which was Charizard's side special in Brawl, and now its down special in this game, and this move was a boss killer in Brawl, as Rock Smash dealt huge damage in boss battles. The first custom variant for Charizard's down special is Sinking Skull, where Charizard buries opponents into the ground with a headbutt, and it does have a meteor effect, and the other variant is Rock Hurl, the rock shards fly higher and don't deal as much damage than Rock Smash.
For Charizard's Final Smash, it Mega Evolves into Mega Charizard X, and when you press the special attack button, it uses Fire Blast, and for its regular attack, it uses Dragon Rush, and it does gain super armour, but the downside is when Mega Charizard X takes damage, it will shorten the duration it will remain Mega Evolved. While Little Mac is considered by many to be the first character that can be summoned to be promoted to a playable character, where he was an Assist Trophy in Brawl, Charizard was the first one overall, in Super Smash Bros. 64 and Melee, Charizard was one of the Pokémon that can be summoned from a Poké Ball before becoming a playable character, Charizard is the only Pokémon to go from a Poké Ball summon to a playable character.
