I play through Classic Mode with Joker, he is the first character in the Fighters Pass DLC, but he is not the first DLC character added, that would be Piranha Plant. How I do Classic Mode is that I randomize a list to decide my next few characters I would do, the playlist will display the fighters in order of how they are displayed on the roster. Joker's Classic Mode route is Shadows, and his opponents use a darker alternate costume to reference the shadows in Persona 5, and in the next round, one of the characters becomes Joker's CPU Ally, likely referencing how they can become Personas and freeing the shadows from corruption, so this is kind of like Mewtwo's Classic Mode route, but it's the opposite, where with Mewtwo, it mind controls that player into becoming a CPU Ally, and with Joker, the character is purified and uses a lighter alternate costume. Most of Joker's battles take place on Mementos, the stage that comes with Joker when downloaded, and the Phantom Thieves appear in the background, and Morgana appears in Joker's taunts, Kapp'n' is the only Assist Trophy to appear, referencing the bus form Morgana transforms into and can appear in the background for Mementos.
In Round 1, you fight a Horde Battle with six Mr. Game & Watches, and in Round 2, Mr. Game & Watch becomes a CPU Ally, and you fight a Giant Kirby on Kalos Pokémon League, this is the only match where you don't fight on Mementos on Joker's Classic Mode route, and Kirby uses Meta Knight's colours for his alternate costume. In Round 3, you fight against Samus and Dark Samus on Mementos, using the blue background from Persona 3, and you team up with the blue Kirby as a CPU Ally. In Round 4, you fight Meta Knight on Mementos Battlefield Form, Meta Knight uses the Dark Meta Knight alternate costume, and you team up with Dark Samus using the grey alternate costume. In Round 5, your opponents are Link, Young Link, and Toon Link, all three use the Dark Link alternate costume, and you team up with Meta Knight, and the background for Mementos in that match is the yellow background from Persona 4. In Round 6, you fight a Giant Incineroar on Mementos in Omega Form, and you team up with Link as a CPU Ally where he uses his Fierce Deity alternate costume.
Next is the Bonus Stage, and at the end, you fight both Master Hand and Crazy Hand, which from what I have read is a reference to the final boss in Persona 5, and the music is Our Beginning, which plays in said final boss battle, and the stage is Mementos in Omega Form, Joker is one of three playable characters to fight Master Hand and Crazy Hand on any stage other than Final Destination, the other two being Donkey Kong and Sephiroth, in this case, you fight both hands on Mementos.
After completing Classic Mode, the credits play, and the song for completing Classic Mode with Joker is Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There, and you then earn the Fighter Spirit for Joker (Phantom Thief), where Arsène appears alongside Joker, there is also Joker (Student), which is one of Joker's alternate costumes, which you can buy from the shop, Arséne doesn't have his own Spirit.
