#SuperOldGameSaturday - Super Mario Bros. 3 (Nintendo)

Nocturne returns to #SuperOldGameSaturday with, at long last, an 8-bit classic that got her to video gaming to begin with and one that fixes a pretty massive lapse in our coverage. Though we've played the Super Mario Land trilogy and Super Mario Sunshine on this show, we don't have record of any of the seminal and defining Super Mario Bros games from the Nintendo Entertainment System... until now with 1988's Super Mario Bros 3. Using the Nintendo Switch Online port (along with both of the NES controllers available for the system), Nocturne led us on a jam-packed journey across all 8 worlds of this great game as herself (as Mario) and I (as Luigi) battled Bowser and the Koopalings to rescue the kings of the Mushroom World. Along the way, we showed off everything we could in every level, including all of the bonus games, all of the 2-player Battle Game stages and much more. As always, the best chat on Twitch joined us for this one as we all shared our memories about the Mario franchise, the massive pop-culture juggernaut of this game, us remembering the games that made us gamers, seeing many expected and unexpected events in the play and much more. We had a great time going through this game and I once again thank Nocturne for being our leader and resident expert on this game, along with all of you in the chat for making this such a great show. We're not exactly done with Super Mario Bros. 3, though, as Nocturne will return next year for a blind look at the extra levels added to the Game Boy Advance version of this one, perhaps on February 22nd.
