Here on #SuperOldGameSaturday, we play at least one game requested by the viewers each month and, for November's entry, on ElecVerse's request, we're playing Capcom's The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse for the Super Nintendo. Similar to Sega's Castle of Illusion (which we played on this weekend 2 years ago, which made me realize that we've always played a Disney game on this weekend since the start of this show), this was the debut of this beloved character on Nintendo's 16-bit console that was a reflection of many a childhood of retro gamers and, just like with Castle of Illusion, we celebrated its 30th anniversary on the day of its 1992 release. As such, we joined Mickey on his quest to rescue his dog, Pluto, from the evil Emperor Pete, which took us across 6 worlds of danger, mystery and magic with nods to other Capcom games, all while enjoying the atmosphere, look, sounds and terrific costume mechanic of this one and going into all our memories of this game, the trilogy it's a part of and much more. Also, because this game is short, we played through it twice (once on Normal and again on Hard) to maximize our celebration of this game, which was also celebrated by gaming magazines of the time like Nintendo Power and resulted in me going into how this was called the 80th best game by them in their 100th issue in 1997 and listing the other games from that list, too. I thank ElecVerse once again for making this request and going in deep with memories, information and insights on this favorite of his that still holds up nicely today, along with everyone else in the chat who made this another great pre-Thanksgiving entry of this show of ours (and this coming Saturday is our big Thanksgiving showcase show that we're also all looking forward to).
