#SuperOldGameSaturday - Mystical Ninja starring Goemon (Nintendo 64) - Part 1 (2023 Edition)
Originally Recorded/Aired On January 7th, 2023
Happy New Year from #SuperOldGameSaturday! To start off 2023, the third full year of the program, I'm taking care of a New Year's resolution, which is finally getting back to Konami's Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for Nintendo 64, which I started back on November 7th, 2020 (which was 2 1/6 years ago), but given just how long it's been and how far this show has come thanks to all of you, I'm restarting this deeply underrated action/platformer from the beginning, though the original Part 1 will remain uploaded to contrast between #SuperOldGameSaturday's early years of doing things and its current methods. Namely, we're going deep into this game with an 100% run with discussion on the people who made this 5th entry in the Ganbare Goemon series (and one of only 5 the US got, compared to the over 30 that Japan saw). I have strong memories of this one helping inform my interest in Japanese history, traditional culture, pop-culture and anime, which I'm continuing to share here, but this time, with even more of a chat presence to add to when Proterova was in chat for the original Part 1 we did so long ago. For this return, we went deeper into this series, this game, its great music, the heavy-hitters in its voice cast, others like us who also remember this buried treasure of a game (and its series) and aspects of its story and time period (whatever that might be), as well as went into multiple other topics, including console modding, a particularly bizarre comic arc for the Joker of Batman fame (fitting, as this was directed by a programmer on Batman Returns for Super Nintendo), Japanese culture and language and even learning new things about this game that I was not aware of, while also setting us up nicely for next month's conclusion. I had a great time returning to this game and I thank ElecVerse, Cazim22, and DollyFinn in chat for adding so much to it, as well as all of you for your support and interest in what this show does. Hope you enjoy our first show of 2023 and part 1 again of this underrated N64 gem (and if you like what you see here, stop by https://www.twitch.tv/captainditrag each Saturday at 7 PM EST to see these streams live and join the conversations on what we play each week)!
