The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion | Twin Trouble
#nocommentary #elderscrolls #playthrough
I spoke with some the locals in Chorrol only to hear an odd rumor. Someone is in two locations at the same time. Roughly speaking. There's no way someone is using teleportation magic here. I went to confirm this only to be met with a drunk. He claims that someone is dragging his name through the mud and has offered me 50 gold to investigate this and put a stop to it.
I must admit I was amused by the thought and went to Cheydenhal to confirm if this was some teleporting shenanigans or if someone was using illusion magic to disguise themselves as somebody else much like Jagar Tharn. Instead, I found him again! Rather I seem to have found his twin brother. I informed Guilbert that he has a look-alike back in Charrol and he was ecstatic to hear that his brother was still alive. It would seem that he wanted to travel by foot and since things are looking rough these days I escorted him.
Good thing I did, this guy could not stay out of trouble. When things got dicey he pretended to be dead while I cleaned up the rest of the hostiles. This guy knew nothing about self-preservation, he walked by those Oblivion Gates like it was just another shop in the Imperial City. Outrageous. Still, I am glad he made it to Charrol and was reunited with his seemingly long-lost twin brother. I was given very little gold but I was happy to see the reunion.
The brothers were indeed happy, but they had another request from me. They wanted to take back their lost land and asked if I could survey the area. They were children when they left so they didn't know the exact location of the place, only its name. I asked around town and was told that someone from the Fighters Guild would know its location. I spoke with Sabine and she revealed to me the exact location. I went there to see what was left of the area.
The house and everything around it is in a sorry state but it's still infested with Ogres. Ogres are tough creatures to face against. They are stupid and predictable but get comfortable fighting one and you'll end up dead with one of their heavy swings. I killed off all the ones I could find and went back to Guilbert to tell him that the land was clear of Ogres and that he and his brother could live there again. He wanted me to escort them both to safety. Fair enough.
I then wandered around until I went to the castle to greet the one in charge of Charrol. She seemed to be in a huff so I asked her if there was something I could do to assist her. The poor countess revealed to me that her husband had passed away, and when he did she commissioned a portrait of him so that she may remember him. Someone had stolen the painting and she desperately wanted it back.
The Countess assigned me to find out who stole the painting and bring it to justice. She did warn me that accusing the wrong person would get me in trouble. This made me believe that she already knew who it was. Either way, I'm getting paid to find clues and not fight. Easy. I asked everyone in the castle and came to the conclusion that it was Chanel. Why? Her story was inconsistent with everyone else's. Not to mention the paint supplies in her room.
