Despite being more or less the same game as UT2k3 with more maps and features, Unreal Tournament 2004 actually has noticeably worse sound mixing and binaural audio. It sounds more "compressed" and pinpointing your opponents seems much more difficult. Even after changing the communications setting to do nothing, the volume is extremely low. I had to set it to 3.0 in the .ini just to make it the same volume as UT2k3 and it still becomes quiet if I enter the options menu. It's not an Unreal Engine 2.5 thing either, as Pariah ran on the same engine and had very good binaural audio and sound mixing in my video of it.

It's a real shame, since UT2004 is the superior game to UT2003 in every way otherwise. I actually have a tough time deciding whether I like this one or UT99 the best.
