What If House of M also starts off Volume 8. Emma doesn't mindwipe Gwen when she witnesses Peter recovering his memories, thus Gwen ends up in the same area as the main heroes when Wanda destroys the House of M universe. Everyone in the area is returned to the main continuity, including Gwen, who's rightly confused, as she's part of Wanda's universe and doesn't recognize this reality. Peter, still reeling from the life he lost, continues his role as an Avenger, when Sentry and several villains disappear. A group of villains band together to take advantage of the weakened Avengers, who are busy discussing other odd anomalies occurring in their world. Meanwhile, Gwen researches her new world, when Strange appears and tells her she's the reason for the glitches. That she technically shouldn't exist and needs to go before things get worse. Gwen refuses, and witnesses a massive fight between heroes and villains, where Aunt May, Jarvis, and Mary Jane are killed. Reality crumbles away, and Gwen accepts she has to go to save everyone. But Peter sacrifices himself to save her, and it ends with a white light erasing everything. Next, Peter takes Hawkeye's arrow to save Wanda, and is rewarded by Wanda allowing his House of M wife and son to exist in the regular universe. He introduces them and explains everything to May and MJ, but his actual wife is clearly not happy with it. He tries to split his time between his two families, but the relationships become heavily strained, to the point May tells him he has to make a choice. MJ is attacked by the Green Goblin, despite Norman still being in jail, and Peter decides to stay with MJ. He takes her to a cabin for their anniversary, where it's revealed he's also retained his mental breakdown from House of M, becoming the Green Goblin. But as he's about to kill her to remain with Gwen, a sudden flash of sanity causes him to jump in front of his glider, killing him instead. And years later, his son Richie ponders if he should take the mantle of Spider-Man. These were interesting, though I wish the first one was the full story and we got to see more of Gwen in her new world. But both are entertaining and worth a read. Though more importantly, Aunt May gets to be a spider hero again.
