What If Runaways? Technically, this was a backup story split into parts for each previous issue. When Iron Lad activates Vision in the far future where all heroes are dead, the Avengers Failsafe Program targets the Runaways as candidates, thus Iron Lad travels back and recruits them as the Young Avengers. While thwarting a bank robbery by the Wrecking Crew, Molly is injured and the team retreat. They heal back at base while discussing the events that led them to this point, and wondering if they can defeat Victor, the young version of Victorious, the villain that will destroy all heroes in the future. And it's revealed Iron Lad IS Victor, working with his future self to intentionally try to get them killed. And that they've captured the real Iron Lad. Gert catches them and attacks, but the duo are too powerful and try to kill her, only for Chase to take the dagger and seemingly die instead. Nico and Karolina then join the fight, and the bursts of temporal and magical energy get the attention of Kang, who shoots Victorious down. Victor and Victorious recover and the Runaways join Kang in fighting them, but Victorious manages to kill the original Iron Lad, which, since he was the younger version of Kang, causes Kang to vanish. Molly finally joins the fight, knocking Victorious out of their base. Chase recovers and puts on Kang's armor, which for some reason is still around, healing his injury and they give Victorious the beating of his life. But he's still too strong and incapacitates them. Before he can kill them, Victor has a change of heart and stabs Victorious through the head, finally ending him. Victor travels to another time, vowing to never become his future self, and the Runaways continue as the Young Avengers. This was also a lot of fun. I don't follow the Runaways, but they seem like an interesting group with their own personalities, and this makes me want to read more. What else to say but a good end to Volume 7?
