What If Secret Invasion? Captain Marvel accidentally destroys the Skrull ship Reed had infiltrated, killing him, thus he never creates the device that turns the tide of the Skrull invasion and Earth is conquered. The world celebrates cross-species unity, with humans put seemingly willingly through a process that turns them into Skrulls, including Aunt May and Norman Osborn. Most heroes rebel and live in Wakanda, the only territory not under Skrull rule. Logan smuggles in a virus lethal to Skrulls, and the heroes work to make it reverse human Skrull conversion. They appear to succeed, right as Wakanda is invaded by superhumans loyal to the Skrulls and a battle begins. The cannon to disperse the cure is destroyed, but Thor uses a hurricane to sprinkle it across the planet. Where it's revealed it's still lethal to Skrulls, killing nearly the entire world population. Norman had been masquerading as Iron Man, and, thanks to Peter, was able to get full access to the virus, where he sabotaged the vaccine to eliminate all Skrulls. Enraged, Captain America decapitates him, and the group are arrested for terrorism. Next, Norman becomes suspicious that the world is suddenly seeing stable peace. He contacts Tony, who tells him to search for an answer in the Savage Lands. He takes his Thunderbolts team, eventually finding a large Skrull vessel, where they're attacked by seemingly every hero on Earth that kill the Thunderbolts. Thinking they've been brainwashed by SHIELD nanobots, Norman releases a gas to disable them. Only to find they're all Skrulls. This time, Queen Veranke listened to the prophetic warnings of the cleric, thus their invasion remained hidden, slowly replacing heroes and other important figures to ensure dominance. And Norman is one of them, also possessing the prophet's DNA, but the transformation is unstable and he continually thinks he's Norman. He refuses to listen and shoots himself, proving it's true and another Skrull steps up to inherit Norman and the prophet's essence. These were interesting, and I'm glad we finally saw what the invasion would be if it actually was a Secret Invasion. Including replacing Marvel's own editorial staff.
