What If House of M starts off Volume 7. At the end of the event, instead of no more mutants, Wanda declares no more powers. Thus all superhumans with biological or mystical abilities are completely stripped, the consequences hitting everyone differently. SHIELD decides not to investigate and the former heroes go their separate ways. However, tech powered heroes and villains are still active, as shown with Iron Man having to single-handedly take down a number of villains looking for the cosmic cube. Which reveals itself as Red Skull uses it to kill several heroes. Tony begs Maria Hill to let him form a new team of heroes, but she refuses. Red Skull unites AIM, Hydra, and The Hand under his rule, then destroys SHIELD and the Fantastic Four and takes the Baxter building as his main headquarters, before declaring himself ruler of the world. But he's opposed by Tony and his own team of Iron Heroes and the battle is brutal, with both sides decimated. Even the remaining X-Men don't turn the tide, with Red Skull using the cube to suck the life around him, and soon, Tony is the final hero alive. But he's saved by a surprise appearance by Peter, who takes the cube and smashes it. He declares that the world needs to stop waiting for heroes and be the heroes, and rallies the civilians around him to charge at Red Skull and his forces. And thirty years later, Peter and Tony reminisce on old times and wonder if there will ever be heroes again, with Peter's granddaughter showing signs of enhanced abilities. This feels like the Marvel equivalent of DC's Act of God, though not as inane as that series was. It feels silly that all these heroes would just give up on everything and go back to a normal life, but it is good to see Tony being proactive and forming a new team. I wish this was longer and we got to see more heroes reactions, but as is, it's decent. And always good to see Peter moving on with his life.
