In this video I explain the reasoning behind my decision to by the Apple MacBook Air M1.
It was two reasons really. I’d already had the Mac Mini M1 and thought that it was awesome. I’d sold the Mac Mini after a few months because I wasn’t utilising it properly but with the intention to get another Apple Silicon ARM computer further down the line.
This period of time being without a Mac also fell inline with problems building a Windows X86 PC due to all the scalping. And if this wasn’t enough, the NLE that I use, Edius, was also causing serious issues due to its problems with 11th Gen Intel processors.
The final nail was WWDC 2021, when we found out Apple’s plans for iOS 15 and therefore iPadOS 15. Which clearly doesn’t have anything in it to take specific advantage of the Apple Silicon M1 processor inside the iPad Pro 2021.
This lack of M1 specific utilisation for iOS means that the performance uplift many of us expected from the iPad Pro M1 2021 that would have seen it closing the gap with the MacBook range for usability, clearly isn’t happening during the lifecycle of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15.
So seeing as I needed to go back to Mac and Apple Silicon anyway, the M1 iPad Pro wasn’t going to be closing the gap on the MacBooks anytime soon. It just made a lot of sense to buy the Apple MacBook Air M1.
