Why Mario eats Mushrooms [Advent Calendar #14]
Why does Mario eat mushrooms to become Super Mario?
That sure is a question. Here's another one I've been pondering.
Mario eats a mushroom to become Super Mario, and only when he eats one is he nearly as tall as Princess Peach. Okay, so, maybe Peach is some kind of giant who's been raised eating super mushrooms, right?
Except when Mario goes to New Donk City, everyone there is significantly taller than him. If anything, Peach is shorter than most people by quite a lot.
Also, by the time of Mario Odyssey, Mario seems to have eaten so many mushrooms that his new default size is Super Mario. This is backed up in games like Mario 3D World where he starts large and then shrinks when he gets hurt. In Odyssey, if he goes into a 2D section, he's always Super Mario rather than tiny Mario, so we know he's under the influence of the mushrooms.
But even as Super Mario, he's still half the height of New Donk City citizens, who all appear to have human proportions.
Soooo if Mario is still tiny even when he's eaten magic growing mushrooms, that must mean that his original, unaltered height is somewhere around two feet.
Maybe tomorrow's video should be: why is Mario a tiny adult baby man?
But hey, that's just a theory.
