#176 AERO FIGHTERS - FULL PLAYTHROUGH (Normal Mode) - Beating My Snes Games
0Here is of my full playthrough of Aero Fighters (Sonic Wings) done, as always using original hardware on a Super Nintendo with no cheats or save states! I had to succomb to adding two additional lives from startup in order to beat Normal mode. Therefore this game is void of the main challenge to beat every game on its starting settings. This the second time i've failed with a game after also failing on Imperium!

-Well, I guess weakness is contagious! Having finally fallen to my own rules of beating all my Snes games on their starting settings with Imperium (game #142), here I am, once again up against an extraordinarily tough shump and find myself only able to conquer by increasing the starting live count from 3 to 5!
The burden of shame is weighty, but my mental preservation is unfortunately important to me nowadays and there is only so much suffering I'm willing to accept from one game before I call it, so the 2 extra lives will have to suffice.
And they were certainly needed! Despite taking down the game on Easy, without breaking sweat, Normal mode is a different beast, almost exclusively because of the final boss!
AeroFighters is undoubtedly a tough shump, but it's not certainly not impossible. It helps that it's also pretty damn good, with a basic but well designed array of levels that have some impressive bosses.
The offer of 4 different planes to choose form, each with quite different mechanics, boosts replay values tho good luck with anything but the British plane, which despite its speed, has by far the most powerful weapon and decent bombs.
The powerup system(the heart of any shump), lacks the depth to really make this a great, but it's still satisfying enough. My biggest gripe is being forced to continually tap Y to engage autofire! I need a turbo controller, which I don't have! Sorry thumbs!
The game is tough & and certain bosses frustrating but really beating this or not, comes down to one thing; the final stage & mainly the final boss! Its really about speed; the faster you destroy it, the less incredibly unfair phases you'll have to face! Since one death means you're back to your starting gun, bombs really are the only way to win, hence the need for additional lives. Trust me, letting this fight roll on just gets harder and harder. If you make it to the floating skull just give up! 😆. Thankfully with practice, speed and 2 additional rounds of bombs, I was finally able to defeat it.
