#168 KA-BLOOEY - FULL PLAYTHROUGH - Beating My SNES Games
Here is of my full playthrough of Ka-Blooey done, as always using original hardware on a Super Nintendo with no cheats or save states! Not sure why the sound around level 80 is missing from the recording. Something happened during the render but i wasn't starting again!!!
Follow me on instagram @Cabin_game_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.

-Thank the lord, this game is finally over!..
Puzzle games don’t often leave me at breaking point, but the cold shiver of PTSD will likely last quite some time after eventually seeing this one to its conclusion!
Ka-Blooey, sees you control some uninspiring, bumbling, blue lump across a seemingly endless; 130 stages of the usual, unfriendly isometric puzzle environments. The decision to cram in the final 30 stages leaves the playthrough feeling flabby, screaming out for a more condensed, 100 stage version. The difficulty for much of the later part of the game becomes a chore with stages often demanding up to an hour to beat. Perhaps the experience would be less gruelling, if I wasn’t constantly trying to tear off both ears after being forced to hear that same awful; “Ggggg Get Get Get, ReeeeRe, ReeeeeReady” 30 second theme loop for the 10 millionth time! Honestly did they actually think it was acceptable to release one small loop of music for the ENTIRE game?
Is it all bad? No. The basic premise of the puzzle aspects work well. The requirement to destroy all bombs & landmines to beat a stage remains easy enough to understand throughout and the introduction of numerous obstacles helps gameplay evolve at a fair pace. Though movement is the typical sluggish meandering associated with games of its ilk, it’s only really the latter stages where such a handicap becomes a hazard when more complex navigation is required and the endurance of stages peaks dramatically.
Still, Simple oversights cause unforgivable frustrations with gameplay. Why the fuck am I not able to see the whole stage on the map screen? Planning a route is vital, the agony of unforeseen obstacles forcing a suicide late on in a stage is far too, teeth grindingly, regular. Add to this the fact that different bombs (namely the small & medium) simply look too similar to each other, resulting in fatal consequences. Was a different colour really too much to ask?
I’ve beaten some brutal Puzzle games in my time and Ka-Blooey certainly cements itself into that camp. Its more enjoyable than some, but no less frustrating!
