#171 CAPTAIN COMMANDO - FULL PLAYTHROUGH (Normal Mode) - Beating My SNES Games
Here is of my full playthrough of Captain Commando 7 done, as always using original hardware on a Super Nintendo with no cheats or save states!
Follow me on instagram @Cabin_game_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.
REVIEW: (Originally posted on Instagram):
-My 20 years collecting games has ultimately seen me work towards a goal which originally never included the acquisition of Japanese versions of games that already saw release in the PAL region. I’ve strongly prided my collection on being PAL first at all cost, something often regrettable. Still despite amassing a vast collection of some extremely rare additions to both my PAL and NTSC library, priorities change and with a family to support, spending vast sums on rare games just isn’t something I care about anymore. Hence the decision to hoover up some of the remaining ‘big hitters’ via cheaper means.
All said and done, the idea of actually forking out north of £150 for THIS game now seems, simply laughable! The fact the cart has skyrocketed in price in recent years, says more about the obsession with trophy collecting than it does anything positive about the gameplay itself!
35 minutes it took to finish what can only described as a very average game at best. I’ve beaten countless beat em ups during this SNES adventure and I’ve little hesitation calling this the worst of the lot! Don’t forget that I am huge fan of the genre, and it maybe an extremely rare event to see Capcom deliver a poor game, but they have, I’m just glad I’m not in the need to ask for my money back.
The gameplay is sluggish, enemies are bland, environments are detailed but equally unimpressive.
There are four playable characters to choose from each with mildly different gameplay characteristics, and while Captain No-Underpants is a reasonable option, my favourite is Sho, due to his increased speed (still a slug). It just isn’t enough however to save the game from extreme mediaocracy.
Some might suggest I’m simply jaded by the amount of games already toppled in this genre. In truth, the more I beat, the more I value my barometre for success! The blueprint for excellence in the beat em up genre litters the 16-bit generation, below par entries just aren’t worth the investment! Especially at astronomical prices!
