Alfred Tries To Play: Sesame Street Sports (Game Boy Color)
This along with Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 4 was one of the games I remember playing most on my Game Boy Color when I was a child as the GBC was the first handheld I had. Even then I'm sure I remember thinking there had to be something more to this game then just endlessly replay all the events over and over again for no readily apparent reason.
But no, it seems the whole game as you see here is all you get. It's a collection of 6 feeble minigames that play identically, the only things that change are the character you play as and the level graphics. The gameplay is basically move right through the course, jump over obstacles and collect items.
That's all there is to it, there's no opponents to race against and no reward beyond seeing Elmo and Big Bird display the time it took to complete the event and how many items you collected, before you get dumped back to the character select screen. Even most Atari 2600 games had more depth than this. In terms of depth, this game is as shallow as a drying puddle.
I concede that the graphics of the Sesame Street characters do look well-drawn and that's nothing really functionally wrong with the gameplay, but overall, this has to be one of the most shameless and lazy cash-grab jobs of a game I've ever played.
