Breath of Fire (GBA) Playthrough Part 1 - Camlon Castle
This game is by no means a game that can be breezed through in mere moments. Grinding is a major necessity for survival because the challenges presented in the game can at times be unrelenting.
Encounter rates are extremely unbalanced in this game. Monster battles can appear in mere seconds apart from one another; any step taken, could be a battle. It is too apparent that Capcom never programmed a recovery period between battles.
The one thing I absolutely hate is bosses with a second wind phase which happens when you deplete their life bar ONLY for them carry on with even stronger stats and more aggressive in attacks with a secondary invisible life bar. While it is an interesting mechanic... AT FIRST, it ultimately becomes a degrading eyesore fast when you are battling extremely dangerous foes with which you have absolutely NO CLUE how long you have to survive for or how much until the fiend finally falls for good. There are times when this second wind mechanic is greatly abused to really torture the player, especially if the chars are unprepared.
Many consider the hero (Ryu in canon), to be the silent type like Crono in Chrono Trigger, but he does in fact speak more than once during the game, not as frequent, but he does.
Make sure at the start that you purchase all the best equipment and a few sets of Antidotes (Antdt) and Herbs.
While you can certainly grind and upgrade equipment in the comfort of the castle, close by healing fountains, the enemies at that point, might be able to do a number on Ryu easily.
It'll be a while until you visit a "normal" town.
BOSS: Frog [1:27]
This giant amphibian is hardly a challenge, just be sure to heal using an herb when Ryu's HP drops too low. His attacks don't really seem to vary that much in terms of damage, but I think his lunge attack is more powerful than his tongue and breath projectile attack.
